I concealed a Glock 20 for years in the heat of Texas, later went to the 29 (it wasn't any better, both are thick). My daughter can do fine with the 10mm, so I wouldn't worry about controlling the firearm; the shots off target are not due to recoil but not having the sights on the target when the trigger is pulled. Since I've gotten a little older and realized a 10mm is not required for 2 legged folks I've switched to 9s. I carry a CZ compact now, I like the DA/SA and the weight of the gun. I also went to metal guns when playing games (1911 and CZ SP01). I have no issues with CZ reliability and from shooting they are on par with my Glocks; they just require more cleaning (1000 rounds between cleaning as compared to 5 or 6 thousand). I did slim up the CZ a bit, as far as the controls to make it as this as possible. It will also take 17 round mags, use those as the backup mags.

Glock 17 is not too big and doesn't break the bank for practicing which should be done on a regular basis...
