You failed to see the point I was making in that yes obviously you don't get to stand, take a breath, and shoot hence why my suggestion for the OP to choose something that might have a higher round count due to not putting hits on target.

Not if Joe Citizen takes the time and invests the effort and expense to train properly.

We don't get to choose the range. Only respond to it.

If there's time and it's reasonable to retreat and seek cover or concealment, by all means, do it. That may not always be the case. The ability and flexibility to respond to situations thrust upon you is an obligation of carriage. If you're unable, don't carry.

If all you ever did was train on paper at seven yards, perhaps you're better off carrying the permit you were given, and not the weapon, for everybodies sake.

I just love it when people who don't take the time to train and train properly apply their self imposed limitations on the world.

Some of the best training you can get is through IDPA competitions. I try to shoot at least two events a month and if that won't work with my schedule I'll push for at least one event with a family friend who instructs. It's not free but a lot of fun and worth it.

I am 6'0" and 120 soaking wet. The Sig can be tricky to get away with concealing effectively. I can only wear certain, bulkier clothes if I choose the FBI cant. My Job requires me to wear a flight suit.

I won't take the chance of a purse "mounted" handgun, since it won't always be on my person. I am finding it hard to believe I will be able to conceal the Sig effectively. I think a new, "smaller" handgun may be in my future. Any recommendations from my flight suit wearing brethren? I figure I could keep the FBI cant with an altered flight suit (some kind of zipper allowing access to the small of the back) or perhaps an ankle holster (with suit modification) Handgun wise, I will admit, I like it clean and simple, it's why I carry a double action.

Let me know any handgun recommendations, flight suit mods or any ideas you think may be useful. Pardon the expression, but fire at will.

Thanks ahead of time APC-ers.

Sig P290... You can get it with or without laser built in... Should be perfect size frame for your frame.

My conceal carry piece is a Springfield XD-9. The small magazine hold 12 rounds and the extended mag is 16. With the extended mag it feels more like a full size gun

I'll second this. It has been a while since I regularly participated, but I will definitely say that my skill level improved noticeably from shooting at such events. That and from being able to observe, talk with, and receive helpful guidance from the experts was invaluable.

And definitely a lot of fun. Way more so that standing in a loud indoor bay shooting paper.

Also, a little surprised at the lack of love for the SA XDs-9/40/45. I regularly carry an XDs9 in the small of my back with the extended mag. I'm not a large guy and live in a hot climate so carrying in the small of my back provides a great deal more concealment; I can wear ordinary non-loose/baggy t-shirts and the pistol doesn't print at all.
