Looking to get back into it
Hello everyone,
Hope you're doing well. I've been away from aviation for a while...joined the site, because, every few years or so, I have a hankering to come back.
I have an ATP with SA-227 and DHC-8 type ratings and about 10K hours, mostly PIC turbo-prop, Parts 135 and 121. No pure jet time at all.
My old employee number at QX was 8486, lol, that was back when you could still tell seniority by the number, before they switched to the seven or nine digit thing. Started a business and then a few more, all construction related, did pretty well, but ended up with all my eggs in excavating and trucking when the 2007 crash came along...been long haul trucking ever since.
Question to the community: keeping in mind that I'm obviously too close to age 60, (or 65 is this true?) for a 121 carrier to invest in this old broken down individual, that I haven't flown since the mid-90's and am not current in anything, how would one get back into flying?? and still make a living??
I've gotten two kids through college, but still have one in same and a senior in high school at home, no debts other than mortgage...could take a very small pay cut for a well defined short period of time. (Trucking: 65-70K)
Got a first class medical the other day just for grins.
Cheers, appreciate any well intentioned advice even if it's brutal.
Take care and be safe out there.
