Default Worst Place to be a Pilot

Remind me never again to complain about my flight instruction time-building job.

A guy in my class worked there. He said a lot of it is "intensified" (obviously being a reality thing), but a lot of the airports they flew into were pretty sketchy.

Though he was not British, so the film crew tended to not follow him around.

Yeah it's pretty obvious what parts are dramatized. The producers spent about three minutes on a crew's search for a particular piece of traffic. Nonetheless, the strips these guys fly into are quite impressive.

That looks like some fun flying. That Porter is a great STOL plane. The old ones used to have a door in the floor about 4 foot long and a couple feet wide that the pilot could open with a lever. Put supplies on it and drop. They were used by CIA contractors in Viet Nam during the war.

Worst place? Hardly. That's some great flying.

If you look at that kind of flying as something to endure, something that's anything but a dream come true, what on earth did you start flying for in the first place?

I lived in that part of the world for a time. There are some really beautiful places there. Breathtaking.

That kind of flying will help teach you all the things you thought you knew, but didn't. Opportunity of a lifetime. Worst place? Not remotely so.

At least you won't go to waste if you crash out there; they'll eat you.

Those kids will be good sticks when they leave that job. Really cool flying, makes my working days on floats look like child's play. Might be a good retirement job...
