Default Day Sleepers

You know how people and maids in particular ignore the "Do Not Disturb" signs hanging outside your hotel room door? I thought about you guys and gals who fly red eyes, and of course you cargo folks, the other day. I was having a conversation with a CEO of a major cruise ship line who is of course constantly traveling the globe. He came to a weekend sales conference that I was at, and had flown in on a red eye himself.

Anyway, to make a long story short, he told me that when he had to sleep in hotels during the day, because maids and passerbys in the hall are often loud and ignore the Do Not Disturb sign, that he would tape a regular sized sheet of paper to the front of his room door that said, "QUIET, Day Sleeper - Do Not Disturb" He said that he didn't care if it was a five diamond hotel and looked tacky, because if their maids were not considerate enough to lower their voices in the hallways, he didn't care about his tacky sign. He also said that other guests would see it and lower their voices while passing by his room. Maybe you night flying folks ought to try it, particularly if the hotel is noisy.

I've slept in the closer before while TDY. Only in the past few year have I had a regular day schedule in the military. Most of my overseas time was spent working at night.

Not a bad idea. I forgot my DND sign one morning, I was in bed for not even an hour and the maid came into the room!!! Learned my lesson, even if you check in at 6-8am, the room service doesn't really keep tabs on those, so expect a visitor.

Here's another idea -- tune the TV to an unused channel and adjust the volume as needed for an improvised "white noise" device. It masks some of the outside conversation etc.
