Wading ankle deep while showering because of a slow bathtub drain.

As well as the easily clogged toilets.

Always embarrassing to call down to the front desk, asking for the MX guy to come to the room, WITH A PLUNGER.

I think one of the most inexcusable gripes is when I have a late check-in and then a late check-out due to my airline schedule yet they code my key to expire at the "normal" checkout time, forcing me to make an extra trek to the front desk to get access to my room!

Totally avoidable if they'd put a little attention to detail!

If we were that careless about our job, we'd be all over the front page of the news!

Noise ... especially when I have to get to bed early or sleep in due to my report time. It's bad enough from the other guests but loud banter from the maids (or them knocking on my door) is something they should be aware of as part of good customer service training.

By the way, I started using a 'white noise' (background noise) machine app on my phone on my layovers and it seems to help cut down with being awakened by noises. There are several available but I use "White Noise Free" (TMSOFT) and I like it. It's available for both iPhone and Android.

I've saved many trips by adopting this new habit: When I leave the room to go eat, walk, etc., I check my room key before I leave the room. Open door, insert key, key works, good to go. Key doesn't work, I stop by the front desk on the way out to fix the key.

That saves the frustration of getting back to the room after dinner, finding that the key doesn't work, and having to make another trip to the front desk.

It's such a common occurrence that is doesn't even pay to get upset about it any more. Adapt and survive. The new habit saves time and keeps the blood pressure down.

Some hotels are not just putting them in the bathroom. I've been in a few where there's an extra key card or extra switch on the wall (that may not be obvious.) Sometimes, it's not just the lights -- they also control the heat/ac so your room isn't comfortable when you get back into it after being gone for awhile.

Since the rooms are all laid-out differently, I like to leave the bathroom light on and the door pushed to so that I have a little light to find it in the middle of the night. I can't do that with these damn sensors. At one hotel, I dragged a FLOOR LAMP into the bathroom and left it on all night. LOL ...

That's a great tip, Tony. Actually, I've started doing this too! Yet sometimes, especially if you're out for awhile, the DAMN KEY expires anyway because the time they have it coded to lapse is while you're gone!

The thing is, we shouldn't have to do remember to check out keys. But no, it's not worth blowing your blood pressure off the scale.
