When my room key stops working (invariably, at a very inopportune time) and after waiting for some ridiculous amount of people to complete their business at the front desk, the clerk delivers a lecture about 'keep your room key away from your credit cards and your cell phone!' instead of just making me a new key and getting on with it.
I know they are trying to be helpful.....but the way-too-condescending manner in which this is typically explained just gets tiresome.

Depends on the hotel and your company's contract with them. Some only give night credit, some give points, a handful give you both, most give nothing. Was better when the economy tanked and hotels were desperate for airline business and started adding points a sweetener to get contracts.
