Red face Snow/cancellations/delays... advice!

Hello everyone. Please delete thread and ban me if need be, but I have some questions that I think only you can answer.

I have the job interview of my life this Friday, the 30th in Jacksonville, FL. It is a chance for me to more than double my income, and to live in a part of the Country where I feel like it will be easiest to start a family.

As you know, there is a ton of snow this week in the Northeast, a big one today/tomorrow, and an annoyance on Thursday night into Friday. Flight is scheduled to leave PHL at 7:00AM Friday and arrive in JAX at 12:00PM after a layover in ATL.

Guys/gals, I can't afford to have this flight cancelled, and so I'm willing to just drive the 880 miles if I absolutely must.

At what point will I know when it's time to pull the trigger on this? It's a 12-13 hour drive to JAX from here, so it needs to be by midnight or so (interview at 3PM, allowing some time for emergencies)

How much snow would cause a serious delay of more than an hour or so? (I think they're calling for 1-3 inches)

Any other advice?

Thanks so much for reading, and sorry if I have intruded on your space. God Bless, and safe travels.

If you have to be there and there is any possibility of a cnx, drive.

Would 1-3 inches cause a cancellation?

Thanks...

It shouldn't.

Go ahead and drive. Crews will be all over the place and might not be in place. Cut the drive into 2 days and give yourself plenty of time to get there.

Let me see if I understand correctly: "The job of your life" and you were planning to fly in and arrive at noon on the day of the interview? Seriously?

If you have to be there at noon on the 30th, move Heaven and Earth to leave Thursday by air, car or Space Shuttle. You need to be rested and ready, trying to travel early that morning is CRAZY.

I age been in a few of these IROPS over the years and it's amazing at how long it takes for some of these airlines to catch up, crews stuck out on layovers for days ..... Just because it may no longer be snowing doesn't mean there won't be further delays ahead ....

Last year in the heat of it all. We had a airplane in JFK and ORD that had runway overrun incidents , and if I recall the snow wasn't too bad at that point. But man that through a wrench into what already was a bad situation.

If this job truly means that much to you, I would def drive ..... Don't rely on a chance just cause there is a so called 3 inches forecast etc.

As a bonus , during your interview you may get a chance to mention how this met so much to you that driving was not even a choice ...

I am sure in recruiter or management personal would love to see that devotion.

Hope this helps, good luck

Looks like you're flying on Delta, and planning on arriving for the job interview of your life with mere hours to spare. Bad plan, even with beautiful weather.

Plan to leave a day earlier. If the flight cancels, start driving. Don't count on encountering zero delays as you drive -- it will likely be slower going than you hoped. Drive until you're out of the bad weather -- Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC, wherever ... fly the rest of the way. Consider US Airways also. Arrive alive -- EARLY. Get a good night's sleep, a shower, and a good meal. Nail the interview.

You'll never regret getting there early. You'll never forgive yourself for getting there late.
