A lot of us captains pack food too. Cheaper, healthier, and quicker. Also with the LWBag I don't need a fridge at the hotel, just an ice machine. The last thing I feel like on a short overnight is hunting for food.

I bring Greek yogurt, some cheese, lunch meat, bread, chips, pbj, granola bars, instant oatmeal, cereal, and leftovers (pasta, chicken, stir fry etc..)

Pita pocket bread because it doesn't get smashed like regular bread and you can buy pouches of tuna salad for about $1 in the canned meat section.

If you want to be healthy, you don't buy every meal. Even stuff that should be healthy is often not and loaded with sodium or some other bad stuff (sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc).

Yeah it's not just about saving money. I'd say around 75% of the guys/gals I fly with bring some food/snacks with them...

All these tips so far are spot on. I've found that one item that DOESN'T travel well are bananas. After three years of trying to tote them around, I've finally given up. After even one minor bruise, they start to get squishy and leak all over your bag, leaving a disgusting, sticky, smelly goo over everything.

Also, don't forget to clean everything out as soon as you get home. Nothing sucks worse than having ten minutes before you need to run out the door for a 4-day trip and opening your lunchbox to find a fledgling compost pile...

There was a seafood place in PWM outside security with great chowder. Used to mix tuna in there to jack up the protein.

The first time around at a regional I was a pretty serious body builder. Used to start a four day with 20 frozen chicken breasts (insert crazy comments here.). Best protein shake on the market these days is from a company called Full Strength out of Golden Co. You can't get these in stores, only online. It's from Shawn Phillips (brother of MetRx and Body for Life founder Bill Phillips.) Long story but when they sold MetRx (later EAS) to Abbott Labs the quality of the protein went to crap and the bulk junk started showing up at Costco and WalMart.

300 calories, 40 grams of whey isolate/concentrate, casein, and enough vitamins to replace a meal. Low sodium and cholesterol. Get a shaker cup. You can drink two of these a day and not feel hungry then buy a normal dinner (or lunch) somewhere.
Little more expensive than most shakes but better quality. Does not taste like crap.

I'd have to double check the O2 pressure before flying with you!

What type of protein are you using? I'm a user of ONs whey and casein and BSN syntha-6. I bring whey for post workouts and casien for a before bed shake. For a 4-day I bring 8 chicken breast, 12 hard boiled eggs, 12 strips of uncured turkey bacon, lots of home cooked beans, brown rice, boiled sweet potatoes, fruit, nuts, and veggies. I make a funnel with told cards and use the 32 water bottles as a blender bottle. Most overnights have grocery stores near buy and workout facilities similar to a gold gym that the hotel van will take you to.

Get an actual "Blender Bottle" BlenderBottle | Best Shaker Cups & Supplement Storage Systems and you'll save a lot of trouble. Some "genius" made a million bucks by taking a kitchen whisk and turning it into a ball. It will actually pulverize a bannana just by shaking. I get 1oz packs of almond butter from Justin's (Justin's) and 1oz packs of tart cherry juice (known antioxidant) from King Family farm in MI (King Orchards). Mix it all together with the protein and you've got a pretty tasty shake. The pups won't remember this but prior to blender bottles the hard core guys threw a handful of marbles into a tupperware cup and used that as a makeshift blender.

Na! That was 20 something me. Now I'm like, "gimme the cheeseburger." I've reached the point in my life when the "Big Fat Greek Buffet" (actual name) on a Toronto overnight sounds like a great idea. OPA! I guest it's like the smoker with emphysema that still tokes a Marlboro while wearing a nasal cannula with flowing oxygen: you know it's not a good idea, but yet you still do it.

I pack my own food mainly because it is healthier and convenient. One example: Leaving the hub around 4PM to some outstation 2 hours out that has no food and most of the better options close around 8 or so. Then you are really stuck with the McDonalds. And no, there are NO healthy options there. Those salad and fruit cups do not count.

I like packing my own food for the same reason I like cooking/making my own food - I know exactly what goes into it and can keep it as healthy as I'd like.
