It has to be voluntary. This guy makes light of human nature but trying to force this sort of thing will of course only lead to a strong government run by certain animals who ultimately turn out to be more equal than the other animals.

Reasonably smart humans who seek out eduction (and knowledge in general), and who can come to understand themselves can readily override their own nature up to a point. But that's what, 20-30%? Maybe it could be 60-70% with a concerted effort. But what about the rest, who are too intellectually challenged or just too obstinate to get on board with the program? Concentration camps? Selective breeding? Who has the right to make those decisions?

I laugh when I hear some folks complain about how athletic programs encourage competition, elitism, and aggression. To the contrary, sports merely channel our natural tendencies into something which, if not exactly productive, at least provides a more benign outlet than what nature intended...which is tribal warfare, make no mistake about that.

With that said, I don't think sports should be linked to education in a manner which is detrimental to education.
