Is that an If/Then or an and/or statement?
Seriously, dont bother with a pet. I have a Yellow Lab and she lives on the farm with my parents. My fiance has a pug and I hate the ugly little bastard, so I don't mind not seeing it. You will never have enough time to see them and they will have a worse QOL than you.
However, if you want a pug, I will fedex a house-trained one right over...

My only pet (besides the wife) is fish. A bunch of SE Asian tropicals (wish that was the wife), lights are on a timer, automatic feeder, good filters. Just have to clean it every now and then and refill the food about once a month.
AVIVIII, what's so bad about the pug? I heard they were pretty good dogs but that could be wrong since I've never owned one.

If you have your heart set on getting a dog, my only advice is to avoid a Neapolitan Mastiff. Your scrawny regional paycheck will never be enough to feed this big guy. Cuteness and slobbers can only go so far.

Pure bred sheltie. Show quality. He's tri-color which is rare. His quality normally cost an arm and a leg however there's an art teacher for a college that raises them and every year my father and I give her and her student's snowgeese to paint as projects. She repaid us after a few years but giving me the pick of the litter. He's super smart. Thinker.

They are ridiculously high mantenance. We spend more money on that thing at the vet than any dog I have ever had before. Due to its ugly, useless flat face, its bulbous google eyes stick out. This combined with the fact that they aren't smart enough to not run into things keeps the vet always looking at its eyes and giving us more medication. They have skin problems, ear problems and worst of all, they have this gland in their a$$ that the vet needs to empty every few weeks otherwise it sprays out this nasty super-sh!t goo that stinks and gets everywhere. They dont learn. My yellow lab was house trained in about 32 hours. She learned sit, stay, paw, lay down and roll-over in the next week. This dang thing is 5 and still barely knows its own name. It is more likely to come if you append "Cheese," "Ride," or "Greenie" to its name. At five years old, he never obeys a command on the first issue and sometime just runs away. This is very frustrating for me as I trained water rescue dogs (Newfies and St. bernards) with my family when I was growing up and I also trained our horses. As much training that I do, it still can't figure out to stay off of my furniture, out from under the table and out of the bathroom. Did I mention that you have to clean it's face every 3 or 4 days because of those lame wrinkles? The dog can never just chill out, it always has to be up someone's butt, getting petted or sitting on thier lap. If no one does, then it sits there and whines.

Alright, check pug off the list of acceptable dogs. I used to have boxer. Super smart and super stuborn, not the best combination. If he wanted to get out he would wait for someone who didn't know his tricks and barge the door, right behind your knees at the perfect second to throw you off balance and get through the door. Then there was no catching him until he wanted to come home. He knew exactly how close he could let you get to him without you actually being able to catch him. To him, it was a great game, to me, it was a pain in the ass. Luckily I leved in an area I could let him run so unless I was leaving, I would let his ass get bored then he'd saunter on home.

american pit bull terrier, great dog! Real smart, learns tricks fast. She follows me around everywhere I go. Their a bit more on the strong side, you gotta have some energy to keep up with them. One time when I was playing with her, she got excited and accidently smacked her head into mine, I almost blacked out. Took me a minutes to stabilize myself. They require some more responsibility early on to socialize them with as many ppl and animals as you can. My dog can get a bit protective of me sometimes, but nothing crazy, overall a very friendly dog. Great companions.

Man do I ever miss my lab! They're so smart, loving, and loyal. They are the dog of choice for Guide Dogs for the Blind. I'd come home, she'd run up to me, happy as hell to see me, greet me, but would mellow out and plop down at my feet. If I got up and went into the next room, she'd follow and then plop down in that room, mellow and loving, but always watching over me...and the eyes! That dog had the most beautiful soulful, loving eyes that I've ever seen on a living creature. I better stop talking about her before I start bawling like a blithering idiot. Putting her down when she got sick with cancer was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I haven't yet been able to replace her and it's been 5 years.
