Default Smog forces 'blind landing' training.

So...has anyone learned how to land 'blind' in smog yet? Apparently we didn't yet know how to land 'blind' in low vis conditions.

I'm not yet certified for "blind landing category 2" approaches.

Default Not Surprised

I talked to some instructors who taught in China. They said a CAT III landing scared them a lot.

A real CATIII landing scares me too. You are putting a lot of faith that the ILS is protected and will bring you right over the runway.

Sure doesn't look like Smog to me in the CNN Photo. Smog is much more yellow- ish and wouldn't likely display the characteristics as seen surrounding the aircraft in the photo. Additionally many operators won't shoot a Cat 3 to Mins anyway as many require a self imposed Vis in their Ops Specs, largely to assist in the crash trucks finding them...

Sure does to me, just a lot thicker than I've seen.

Not saying your wrong, just saying the smog in the photo doesn't have the yellow tinge to it that all smog I have ever seen has... Maybe they just have cleaner smog...

I don't fly the big stuff, but did get that from a buddy who is a senior Capt at a major with tons of pond crossings, Apparently I could have received some inaccurate or old info...
