I have a comment: If I was in the Syrian military, I would take sick leave next week

As long as you're not standing anywhere near the "Red Line", you should be fine.

I have had enough of the crazy Middle East. Don't want to pay for something that will have no benefit to us. Go after Iran if you want something done.

He is taking the stance of "We should intervene on the behalf of the innocents being slaughtered." Sounds noble enough.

But why this fight? This link discusses war and conflict on the continent of Africa, wherein the author says over 5 million people have died in the Congo in the last 15 years...and that is just one conflict out of many. Most of those killed have not been soldiers, but civilians.

Africa's Forever Wars: Why the Continent's Conflicts Never End - By Jeffrey Gettleman | Foreign Policy

Why weren't they important? More people have died there than in Syria. Yet the African wars are ongoing, and no one is calling for intervention. In Darfur, it is ethnic cleansing...not much outrage.

Why is Syria so important? We have almost no trade with them, so you can't even say it is economically important, nor transparent, as Iraq is.

Is it the political import of "Weapons of Mass Destruction?" Is dying from a chemical attack somehow worse than being killed with a tank round?

Syria, like Egypt and Libya, is a tragedy. But I see it as a civil war...something we have no right to interfere with.

Not only everything that you said UAL - but in the SoS's speech the other day - EVERYTHING and EVERY REASON that was given for intervening in Syria could have been said so many years ago when making the decision to intervene in Iraq - EXCEPT there the the issue of 10+ years worth of snubbing UN resolutions.
Politics. You're way is wrong until my party is faced with the same circumstances and now it is time to help the innocents.
And this crap goes both ways.

Any guesses as to what would be the response from Syria if the U.S. does launch a strike ?
I can see this going tango uniform and escalating in one hell of a hurry and I'm not surprised in the least that the Brits. took a pass on this .

If Iran and Syria really do have a defense pact (I know that ideologically they support each other, but I still don't know if they have a *formalized* defense agreement or if the media misreported that fact); it was reported that Iran promised retaliation against Israel - direct or indirect through Hezbollah - is anyone's guess.

I agree with all that.

But keep in mind, that was also a position held during the previous administration's term as well.
