Default "Pilot shortage" story to run on CNBC shortly

It's 2:30 eastern time now. There's supposed to be some sort of story on a "pilot shortage" shortly. I probably can't watch it, but post if you see it! Should be a hoot. Maybe they can interview Roger Cohen from the Regional Airline Association and he can shed some tears about the 1500/1000/750 hour rule.

It was more about Boeing. And their study saying between now and 2032 there will need to be 480k new airline pilots world wide.

My phone has been blowing up for the past six ish months since these shortage articles have been run en masse. Former fallen by the wayside flight students, friends, acquiantances (sp?), friends of friends. The interest is most definitely there, and it seems these articles are doing a good job exciting another generation of pro pilots.

Getting excited and putting in the time, effort, and money are two totally different things. Especially now with the "gotta have it now!" generation.

Oh, OK. Nothing interesting. Boeing says that all the time.

Cohen cancelled the interview due to a scheduling conflict. He had a tanning appointment he could not reschedule.

If i hear another story about this fictional pilot shortage i am gonna jump out of a window, enough already. Until we have airline recruiters knocking on my door to sell me on why i should fly for their company, it is business as usual.

If you jump out the windo, you'll just make the pilot shortage worse!

I'll be the one to say it, there will not be a shortage of pilots, only a shortage of pilots willing to work for what the regionals want to pay. I don't know if I believe that or not but felt I should put that out there before someone else did.

Agreed. Just because there is limited hiring at some regionals doesn't mean there is a shortage. Not even the bonus means.

Almost all of my friends are unemployed or at least underemployed, meaning they don't have career options. I don't know a single pilot these days with a professional career option other than those who've been 121 Captains for 20 years.

There isn't even healthy progression right now, how could there be a shortage?!
