I am really trying to get get out of flying for a living (charter pilot and former regional). I just got my MBA in finance and have a few job interviews lined up next week, keeping my fingers crossed. Ahh, weekends and holidays off, like a dream come true. However, one of the companies that contacted me flies a TBM, and asked me if i would be willing to fly it when needed. And for the mean time i am trying not to jump out of the window.

Agreed. Just because there is limited hiring at some regionals doesn't mean there is a shortage.
I don't know a single pilot these days with a professional career option other than those who've been 121 Captains for 20 years.
There isn't even healthy progression right now, how could there be a shortage?!

I've been hearing that these so called shortages are only going to effect the regionals, as the experienced pilots there will most likely fill the vacancies for the majors over the next 10 years or so. A pilot I talked to from Delta doesn't buy into this media uproar. He thinks everyone, but the regionals will be fine and have alot of experienced crew for years to come.

We definitely have a looming shortage of pilots willing to work for poverty wages.
What we need to do is to claim that the 'Government' is ruining free enterprise by requiring pilots to have minimum hours, or even licenses for that matter.
In a true free market I can start an airline with guys who are willing to fly for free because they 'love' aviation, no minimums at all. If we have a crash or two then the market will force us to address that issue, perhaps by lobbying congress to defund the NTSB and their pesky accident reporting requirements. We may even hire more experienced pilots or enhance their training, whichever is most cost effective.
