Roger and wilco are both good phraseology when used correctly. Using roger in place of affirmative is annoying and meaningless.

? I will occasionally say to a TA "Negative contact, have on TIS" when on VFR flight. I know what you are saying about TCAS, but sheesh.

I sincerely hope you are joking.

Anyway for what it is worth I also don't like the phrases "with you" (just say "level 6500") or "takin' the active" either. However most of the "takin' the active" are at single runway uncontrolled so there is no ambiguity. And enough people (both pros and amateurs) say "with you" that you will drive yourself nuts if it annoys you.

Yeah, and every time I hear it I want to ask, "What's the difference between being 'ready' and being 'fully ready.'"

I was simply referring to guys that say "got 'em on TCAS" when they clearly don't have it. Aside from the fact that ATC really doesn't care until you actually have a visual on the traffic.

Wouldn't you want to know which end of the runway they were taking? Calm winds, or somebody trying to short cut a circle in the pattern before leaving? I prefer using the actual runway #. Taking 13, clear of 13, etc.

On a side note:

When switching Center frequencies intra-facility, stating altitude on the new freq is redundant. The same 'electronics' and radar that validated the altitude on initial check in with that facility is the same radar.

In the terminal environment, switching from the initial controller to the final controller... all that could be said is 'American 123, on frequency' because the initial controller told the final controller ... 'I am giving you American 123, HDG 090, 6000, speed 180.

Thoughts?
