Default S.F. High Schools Ban ROTC

SAN FRANCISCO — High schools across the city soon will no longer have Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps programs after officials decided to eliminate them because of the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" policy regarding gay service members.

OK, so ban ROTC but Enlistment recruiters still have unfettered access to High School campuses.

A little known provision of the No Child Left Behind Act makes it mandatory for any school that receives federal money to provide names, addresses, and phone numbers of high school students to military recruiters. Recruiters also cannot be denied access to the campus.

So what's worse, don't ask don't tell, or creating a class stratification by denying the military access to potential officer candidates but serving high school seniors to enlistment recruiters on a silver platter.

I don't live in CA, so I'll just sit back and enjoy the show.

It's a dumb rule and most everyone in town will tell you so.

Well feel free to stay away from it then. We have no shortage of people who love this town.

Doesn't seem very inclusive or tolerant.

I don't agree with that because it doesn't give students the full knowledge of opportunities out there. Even here in Del Rio there are several that have joined. Makes college easier for them.

It must be difficult to go through life being as damaged as you obviously are. Please stay away from San Francisco, and get some help.
