S.F. High Schools Ban ROTC

Skygirl, that sounds like the complete opposite of this forum! Must be a beautifull place to live.

I dunno. I won't judge it before I've seen it.
Buuuutttt -- from everything I've read, the town seems to be run by a bunch of hypersensitive, hypocritical, overly-P.C., selective-freedomist college kids. Not exactly the society I want to be involved in.
I think this story has done a wonderful job of illustrating this stereotype.

SF is a beautiful place though... it's just too bad the people who live here have no tolerance when it comes to people who differ politically from the whacked out perspective they have.
Anyway, no mal intents here.... just an observation from my side.

Slice Baby, you're wrong there. If you could have seen the sparkle in the eyes, and grins on the local gals faces, when the Navy sails into town for Fleet Week... Even a couple of the female newscasters one night grinned and winked at each other on the air when they reported, "It's Fleet Week, the Navy's in town!"
That's another thing for you folks who believe that this city is against the military - How do you explain a couple hundred thousand people lining the shores of the Bay every year to watch the Blue Angels? I would bet that all of what many of you know about San Francisco is watching a news report on some protest in San Francisco. They don't tell you about all of the other people like C65driver, Ryane, myself, and the many hundreds of thousands of people around here who totally support those serving in the military. But you know what? If people want to believe all of the stereotypes about San Francisco, then let them - that's less people who will move here. As Otto said, this town has an extremely rich military history. It's very small-minded to believe that just because someone doesn't believe in Bush or his policies, means that they don't support our men and women who are serving.
Regards,
Lucy, who is trying to 'splain it to you.
p.s. Slice baby, you come out here for a visit, I bet you'll find more than a few gals who will want to relieve you of your uniform. . There certainly isn't a shortage of single women around here.

Yeah, memories are coming back right now. Isn't there a "Mendocino Coffee Company" somewhere by Jenner as well? I think I always ate chocolate-chip cookies there as a kid. I was actually born in Jenner, then moved to SFO and then back to Bodega Bay. Do you know Jenner? It's this tiny town on the hill right next to the Russian River! Right now, I live in Germany! ... Hamburg. I don't really like it that much here (weather is horrible and I mean, in this time of the year it gets dark around 4pm! ) and I plan to move back to the States as soon as I am finished with school here. I think German education is pretty highly respected over in the US (at least I hope it is). We go to school for 13 years! I'm in 11th grade right now so there is still some time to go!
Well, whatever, I'm looking forward on coming back and I hope I will have the opportunity to live in California again! I like the LA area as well, although it is even more expensive there! I'll see what it's all worth and where I'll end up so I guess I'll just have to wait!
Blue skies to all of you, and fly safe!
cheers
Jakob
P.S. Damn! I hate this "smiley-restriction-thing"! I want to use MORE! ;-)
EDIT:On topic: I absolutely do not agree on the ROTC ban! I think the military is very important and a very good oportunity for many people out there! Maybe for me as well, I am thinking about it!

Yep, there is a Mendocino Coffee Company, and yes, I know Jenner well. I LOVE driving up there - it's still stunningly beautiful Jakob. I hope you get to come back soon!...oh and by the way Jakob, I absolutely do not agree with the ROTC ban either, neither does the mayor of San Francisco, or hundreds of thousands of others, but you never hear that part of the story in other parts of the US, you just hear the same ole San Francisco stereotypes.

I've noticed that too. I am glad I grew up there for that reason. Either way my parents (who moved to CA just before I was born) were never sexist or racist, so I would hope I would not have learned to be that way as a kid living anywhere.
As a professional airline pilot, I'll never be able to live in the Bay Area.

Don't believe everything that you read. I would bet that many of the most vocal people attacking San Francisco have never even been here, or know the great variety of people who live in the Bay Area and their beliefs. We have many conservatives as well. I have conservative Christian friends and one of my closest friends is of the Mormon faith, whose family moved here years ago to escape the prejudice that they found elsewhere. We just tend to be a bit more accepting here....but yes, smokers are having a tough time of it around here lately!
