For what it's worth, I've been using custom fitted earmolds made by the local hearing doctor attached to the Telex 5x5. You mentioned you had that product so I'm wondering if you're using custom fitted earmolds with them. If the earmold is done properly and properly fitted it will cancel out all kinds of noise and you can hardly even feel them in your ears(properly fitted). Everybody keeps talking about the size of ANR when two small earmolds take up hardly any room at all. I've also heard comments of the headpieces each company uses; custom earmolds don't even need a headpiece if one side has the boom mic bar.

So in my opinion, custom fitted earmolds with the telex 5x5 clipped onto one side's boom mic bar is definitely the way to go. Not to mention less expensive.

Would you recommend those for all aircraft or just jets with nice sound dampening material?

I've never really used them outside of a jet but had I known about earmolds in my early days of aviation, or given the opportunity to fly a prop airplane now, I'd definitely try it. Like I said, a hearing doctor that knows what he/she is doing when fitting them will take away alot of noise simply because the fit is so tight the noise can't get through.

I did in my airline days, but when I started to fly the Citation X and V it was too loud for them.. and to be honest, after trying on an ANR set the other day, I decided I had to have one.. I can even use it on an empty dead head leg to just nap.

The 5x5 with my ear mold is still in my flight bag however.
