Default Encounters with Homeland Security

Annals of the Security State: More Airplane Stories - James Fallows - The Atlantic

This guy is the organizer for the Beechcraft Bonanza formation that flies into oshkosh every year. His route was 'suspicious' so DHS tracked him and technically 'detained' him for TWO hours.

I get suspicious when I see Homeland Security and Anal in the same sentence.

It boggles my mind that so many people - so many pilots even - are either OK with this nonsense or fully support this nonsense.

I realize I'm in the minority here - I won't even ride as pax on a commercial flight because I, for one, still believe in the fourth amendment. I strongly support fttusa.org .

AOPA seems to be OK with this too. Really? Can we say "the death of general aviation"? You have your flying job, so you do not care about general aviation?

There seems to be a totally different consensus on this issue at AVWEB.

Interesting.

Based on what factual or non factual information do you come to this conclusion? I haven't seen one thread of evidence that indicates that we pilots are okay with or support this nonsense.

AOPA seems to be OK with this too. Really?
In what universe is AOPA okay with this? They have been fighting it and supporting the victims of it.

Can we say "the death of general aviation"?
I agree G/A is dying but the DHS is simply a common cold compared to the increased cost of AV gas and everything else when we start to diagnose what is killing general aviation.

You have your flying job, so you do not care about general aviation?
Once again where do you come up with this drivel? Please show me an example from this site.

I for one would rather live in a town where everyone who legally could be armed was. Then one that touted it was gun free.
The sheep were asleep and the wolves have taken over. All you can do is vote. Please don't be respectful to the d bags who work for us in DC. Yell at them every chance you get. They have to start to fear for their jobs. Then change will take place.

The only thing I like about the TSA and DHS is that the hassle of flying on the airlines makes GA look better and better everyday.

If and when I can afford it I'm buying another airplane! I love being able to hop in and go no BS no hassle. To me it's the ultimate expression of freedom. It just takes some serious coin now days to make it happen.
