The article says:

"A Homeland Security agent verbally warned him to drop his weapon. The suspect turned toward the agent and then shot himself, police said.

The agent fired at the man at the same time the suspect shot himself"

Are TSA agents armed now? Or was that the police firing bullets?

Other articles I've seen state it was a FAM that fired. DHS has lots of armed folks...probably more than any other civilian federal agency.

FAM's and FFDO's are TSA, which is under DHS. So, yes, some TSA agents are armed.

All kinds of stuff out now.
Was it a FAM? Good point Otto (FAMs Under TSA/DHS).
One article stated that the FAM missed the shot:
Because of the nature of their occupation, federal air marshals (FAMs) travel often. "They rank among those Federal law enforcement officers that hold the highest standard for handgun accuracy. (Source: ^ a b c "Federal Air Marshals". Retrieved 2013-03-29.
or that it was unclear whether the person shot himself or was hit by the FAM and an autospy would have to determine which shot was lethal.

Customs and Border Patrol also fall under DHS.
