Default Anybody have experience in Ultra-Lights?

I have been wanting to pull the trigger on a used QuickSilver for years. Anybody have any tips? I'd prefer a 2 seater and the "Balastic recovery" parachute is a must in case the wing snaps off, lol.

Seems like I could pick one up for 5-$10,000 used.

I have searched for ultralight instruction in NJ/PA but can't seem to find any places, I have heard maybe upstate NY

I flew their main rival in the mid-80s, the Condor. In fact, my grandfather and father had a small dealership. The Quicksilver MX and Condor were virtually identical, except the Condor used double-walled tubing for the leading/trailing edges and consequently never had any inflight break-ups as the early Quicksilvers.

Early Quicksilvers appeared to me to be much more inexpensively made. As there really were no regulations early on, I'd be tempted to completely disassemble any used machine and perform a detailed inspection (they're not complicated and you could do it in a weekend). Pay close attention to wing attach areas, both the spars and the 'fuselage' (such that it is) and the hardware.

They do seem to be very expensive for what you end up with. For the same $10K, you can get many different small homebuilts with probably just as much fun factor. My opinion only.

I'd strongly recommend a BRS chute.
