Glad one of my 'little plane' friends turned me on to it a few years before retirement.
I hear ya. The only reason I bought an iPad to begin with was for ForeFlight. It's still the only Apple device I own, but I won't fly without it. There are just WAY too many great aviation apps available for it.

Update from an e-mail sent to a PPW member from Lengel:

There will be free updates and the current plan is to also supply the upcoming 10th Edition as a free update. However… you should not expect a lifetime supply of those free updates.

This interactive iPad App project has been far more expensive and time consuming to produce than the printed book… but the final product is stunning.

The new App is virtually identical to the print book except it is in FULL high-def COLOR infinitely and crisply zoomable in portrait,landscape, or multi-page views.

The App features:

Æ a totally linked INDEX and TOC that will zip you instantly to the page you’re looking for no matter what key word you could possibly imagine;

Æ the ability to scroll effortlessly to a desired page using the thumbnail page finder;

Æ the ability for the user to highlight selected text in any of 6 different colors;

Æ the ability to underline words in any of 6 different colors;

Æ the ability to strike through words you don’t like;

Æ the ability for the user to actually draw or write directly on the page with their finger (or stylus) in their choice of 30 different colors;

Æ the ability for the user to create notes on pages using two different formats and place or move those notes wherever they like;

Æ the ability to tab pages of special interest;

Æ the normal search (within itself) capabilities; AND…

Æ the ability to link effortlessly to a Google search of any selected text, regulation number, AIM paragraph, Advisory Circular, etc. for further research in your browser.

I’m very enthusiastic about this Google search function. I believe it adds a huge deal to the utility of the book… actually a whole new dimension. Also the ability to highlight and/or draw or write directly on the page are remarkable learning tools.

It’s not just a book anymore… it’s an information superhighway.

Thank you so much for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Richie Lengel

Well...pretty much describes me. I guess it's safe to say that I am in a cult! And with Richie Lengel's book, which also has a cult following, on the iPad we are sitting at an intersection of cults so powerful that even Oprah or Tom Cruise will sit in awe.

I bought this book a few months ago and while I had initially scoffed at the price($50 on amazon) I think it is a great resource although a tad overpriced.

I friend of mine purchased the app and said he was loving it. I too would like to have the app, for the convenience, but at $70 it is overpriced. Obviously I see it was expensive to initially produce, but at that price point I'm not sure how many people are interested. Also, for that much money, I would expect more than just one update.

I would be interested if current print edition owners got a discount, or if he posted the app was on sale, then I would consider. I'm curious how many people have bought the app, because there are no reviews in the App Store.

He could probably sell a lot more copies if he also offered an eBook PDF edition (what ASA uses for its eBooks)
