Default Interesting gliding

Archaeopteryx Demo-Clip

LOVE the *cat* launch at approx. 3:45
I've never given much thought to gliding before - being more interested in powered flight, but this video as peaked a curiosity.

You probably know this already, but it's a BIG sport over in the EU (given the cost/regulations of powered aviation there), particularly Germany/Austria (where it looks like this may have been filmed?). It's a lot like surfing...harnessing energy from the earth and bending it to one's enjoyment/use. The few times I have done it I have enjoyed it immensely. Definitely not for those who get motion sickness easily, however (you obviously don't have that problem). If you ever get the opportunity, I highly recommend it, if only for the novelty. Very peaceful, and normally done in locations of spectacular scenery (as seen).

Just to make it clear how small these guys are, is the fact that the aerotow they did, was with a Remos G3/GX, which is an LSA here in the states.

Gliding is easily one of the purest forms of flight. Powered flight is cool, but glider pilots can keep it up longer

It's how Fred Flintstone learned to fly.

That 172 used to be on display in the Las Vegas airport lobby, and may still be there.
