FAA CLOSING 173 Control towers
#31
I know the airports aren't closing, just the towers. While I hate to see anyone out of a job, some of these airports only have a handful of operations a day, is it really necessary for those fields to have a tower?
I could not agree more with you about them not being able to come up with a better idea. However, as with many things in this administration, they continuously put things off until the last minute. Don't think we'll ever see that change.

Maybe I'll have to dust off my FOM and read the "Operations without Operable Control Tower."
I don't know if they use feds in the military towers. I suspect many military fields could lose their tower staff and it wouldn't impact operations since some of those fields have little traffic.

Typically military bases use military controllers, although ADW has FAA controllers. There are some FCT airports that won't feel a thing from closures, and others that will sting just from losing the midnight shifts. I had three airplanes on the final at the same time at MDW in the middle of the night 2 nights ago, what took 5 minutes then could take 30 next month. Hopefully something figures out a better way.

Not exactly.
It came about during the president's capitulation to the House so they would raise
the debt ceiling in 2011 thereby avoiding the economic cataclysm of a US default.
But even if it was his "plan," shouldn't the president be getting props from the right
because cutting spending is all they ever talk about?

That's right.

Yes, exactly. The White House has admitted it on three separate occasions now. Thx.
Not with sequestration, because the cuts are arbitrary, with most falling upon the military. In response to this, the right has been trying to give Obama latitude in where the cuts take place, but the left (as well as Obama) has rejected any attempts to give the President more latitude about where the cuts take place.
This is all well documented fact, with dem favorite Bob Woodward of Watergate fame leading the documentation...and getting pilloried by his fellow lefties for breaking the media lock-step of covering for this president.
