Hawaii with family....ideas?
Hi all,
Looking for suggestions where to stay around HNL. Would like not to stay in the very commercialized Waikiki beach area in crew hotels but also not the most remote place either on the north shore. Maybe somewhere in between??
Wife and two able bodied Tweens. Prob gonna need a car. On the agenda is Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head morning hike, north shore wave watching, lots of beach, Dole plantation, etc.
Any input or ideas or experiences are much appreciated. Muchas gracias amigos. Be safe!

There are a lot of hotels that will give you a crew deal in Waikiki, however if you want to avoid that the options are limited.
You might try the Outrigger at Ala Moana Mall if you just want a place to sleep. I've never been to the Disney resort, but if you could get a crew discount the property looks awesome (except for all the airplanes checking it out on final for 8).

Not too familiar with the Island of Oahu. I know the west side is where the resorts are and not nearly as crowded as Waikiki, relatively speaking. Pearl Harbor is an awesome sight to see! However, have you thought about maybe planning a day trip to Oahu, to see pearl harbor, and staying on one of the other islands?

Look into the Turtle Bay condos. Near the North Shore and not really that far from town. To be honest the outer islands are nicer. Maui has a lot to do, the Big Island on the west side is always sunny. My favorite is Kauai where the pace is slower and it hasn't been overdone as much as the other islands.

Maui is my favorite, but everything is 5-ish hours off of the left coast. The best thing about the Hawaiian Islands is that there's something for everyone. Different strokes.

It is near impossible to have a bad time on any of the islands. Everything in Hawaii is so laid back compared to most other places in the world. I have lived on Maui for the past year and have spent several days on Oahu. I haven't seen much of the island except for the HNL area. I will say from what I've experienced that there is great food and lots to do. Waikiki beach, while extremely crowded, is probably on the the safest beaches to bring kids to. Areas of the beach are protected by a breakwater, calm waters with no current. If the wife likes shopping then she will love Ala Moana. Chinatown in Honolulu is pretty cool place to visit as well. Downtown has the Queen's Palace and all the goverment offices, which are cool to check out as well. Then there is Pearl Harbor, quite a sight to see. The Arizona Memorial is very moving.
Have a great time on your vacation. You and your family will love it!

Look here for some more suggestions. The hike up diamond head or out to the lighthouse are fun but not demanding. There are some more demanding hikes.

Outriggers gives great crew rates and have a same day cancel policy.
