Default Mystery in Fort Lauderdale

There were a bunch of YS-111s and a Saab 340 parked on the right side of 9L in Fort Lauderdale (KFLL). Does anyone know what happened to them? I kinda enjoyed looking at them while taxiing by.

Not sure. Don't remember seeing those a/c. I live in West Palm, but go right pass that area when I'm on I-95. If I not mistaken, I do remember seeing what looked like a Convair 440 or a DC-7 with Airborne Express livery on it in the same general area.

Those were ex-ABX YS-11's...

They were there for years, I believe they belonged to Air Sunshine.

The paper weights are gone, I think it was after Xmas they were taking off the sand bags off the wings. Well I guess at least now they're not dangers flipping around the air in hurricane season.

Air Sunshine bought them all for about $1m and expected to turn around and sell them for a good penny. The plan backfired and they were only able to sell one. They aren't legal to fly in the US for whatever reason. Air Sunshine just lost their certificate for shady practices. That Saab was a parts bird.

These guys? I guess their airplanes were cut up and hauled off. Their Saab(s) are for sale?
