You can't just go beating against aircraft windows because of seating assignments. It doesn't matter if he was beating on windows or the person sitting next to him. People need to control themselves.

I don't disagree with you, FLYR, but you've always been quite rational in this forum, and you know there are two sides to every story. I'd be very interested to hear the rest of this one.

Whatever his story is, how it ends with him breaking a part of an aircraft is UNACCEPTABLE.

I'm not picking on your reply ATC, I'm just saying that I knew someone would bring up the circumstances that caused the disagreement; yet the point was the reaction is not proportional to the problem. If the person had taken out the frustration on an FA would you still say 'well his actions might have been justifiable.'
Nothing that happened on that flight necessitated that kind of rage to actually beat on that window hard enough to break it. That is the type of ill-advised rage that leads people to beat someone over the last Cabbage Patch doll during 'Black Friday'
That type of behavior just seems to have become all to common and it makes me sick.

Three sides to every story, but NONE of them end with vandalization.

The accused is claiming stress from almost missing the flight, unemployment (2 months in Fla), being on an anti-depressant and not being able to sit next to his mother, who was "bringing him back home" from FLA. It was the "final straw", I guess - not judging, just relaying the facts from the affidavit.

Does anyone know if it was just the inner plastic window, or if he did damage to the external glass?

Of course! HE'S the victim here. I'm sure his liar, I mean lawyer, will find a way to sue JetBlue for emotional distress.

Does ANY
BODY take any personal responsibility any more? Makes me want to puke.

He can walk home from now on as far as I'm concerned. If the industry would stick together and collectively ban the trouble-makers with a life-long ban, maybe some morons would think before they act. Smash a jetblue window, kick a Delta flight attendant, or accuse a pilot of drinking "in jest", and you just earned a lifetime ban from any American carrier. Wouldn't take long to get the word out... Long after his fine or community service was over, his next vacation would be on bus or a boat....

Do you think he hauled-off and punched the window with all the force he could muster, or back-handed it? If you read into the story, a one hour delay means the inner-plastic protective lens of the window was shattered, not the two or three-ply structural piece itself. Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning this behavior in any way and would have been appalled to be sitting in the row with him, but I am trying to understand the amount of force he applied in the course of his temper tantrum.

Of course, if he was visibly distraut and agitated in the boarding lounge, and if JetBlue prevented him from boarding out of a security risk, then this would have been a different news article....

I'll tell you what guys if the perp had the super human strength to break the stretched acrylic main window he was one bad motor scooter! Of course it was the flimsy inner protective cover.

It is impossible to break a pressure vessel rated window with your fist. I doubt you could do it with an 8lb sledge hammer and ten good swings.

Aha! But what about a 10lb sledge hammer and eight good swings?
