!!!!Chicago MDW/ORD apartment for rent!!!!
Hello to all. I currently have several units that are move in ready in Chicago’s southwest side. The building is about a 5 minute drive to MDW, walking distance to the CTA Orange line which takes you straight into downtown, or transfer over to the Blue line to go into O’hare. Everything is in close proximity from property. If interested please feel free to email me and to get further info. [email protected]

Belated Intro
I've been retired nearly 10 years after a 25 plus year career at a cargo airline. (ACMI after DHL buy out in 2003). I'd say it's been a good ride, but my POV is biased by being hired early in a hiring wave , and living in base the vast majority of the time. Before I drop the mic, I'll post the percentage of my career I spent in certain seniority brackets throughout 5 different seat positions in 3 different aircraft. I don't mean to brag or gloat, but to stress the importance of getting hired early in a hiring wave, and to illustrate to potential airline pilots how a career **could** look like:
Top 1/3 Line Holder : 17%
Middle 1/3 Line Holder : 65%
Bottom 1/3 Line Holder : 7%
Reserve : 6%
Training (Initial, Transition, Upgrade) : 3%
Medical Leave : 2%
FO: 19%
Captain: 81%
Heavy/Wide Body Captain : 51%
My bidding style was initially aggressive, becoming more selective once I upgraded to Captain. (Wouldn't bid larger aircraft until I could hold ~ 50% seniority )
As good as this might look, there were speed bumps along the way. Early on, I wanted to get on with major pax airline so badly, that I was crestfallen with the TBNT's I got from several of them. Looking back, I'm glad it happened because 4 of those companies that turned me down TERMINATED their pensions, while I had a fully funded (albeit frozen) pension waiting for me when I punched out at 60. (My choice). It's true that you don't know if you've made the right career choice until you collect your retirement check. Along the way, if you don't like how things are going at your company, step up to the plate and volunteer for union position. (Committee work in my case). Best wishes, the 5th Grader was right, this beats working for a living.

Thanks for sharing that. Your history will help give the folks just getting into this business some perspective. Not that their career will look identical, but it gives them a good flavor. I would invite others who are retired (or are close to it) to share their experiences.

Hi folks
Jerry here
Im happy to have found your community. Im raising my grandson. He aspires to have a career in aviation. I have some questions to ask on his behalf as a overprotective old granddad as I know nothing about career paths. I dont seem to be able to post a new thread. is that because I joined up today?

Private pilot SEL, about 90 hours logged. Looking to start my instrument rating soon and I'm here to ask a few questions about the FAA written tables and figures book they release.
Thanks for having me here!
