Hello everyone!

My name is Derek, and I am highly considering a career change from Emergency Services. I have been an aviation nerd almost my entire life. Helicopters are what I REALLY want to do, but it is so difficult to find anyone that will hire new pilots. So, here I am exploring the side where the wings don't move. haha

Wow, I read your story, impressive and all that but you may not want to burn your MD ticket quite yet.
Flying is kind of fun in the beginning, like eating ice cream every day: Wow, this is great.
I have 19 flying jobs under my belt, but to pay for flights school and ratings I spent many hours as a merchant marine sailor and a cab driver
instead of going to college/university. (I am also from overseas, also speak a different language)
Flying was fun in the beginning, bush flying in Alaska, DC-3s in the Caribbean, then 747 capt in my late 30s, wow this is cool.
Then you get slowly burned out, not only from night work and jet-lag, but from bankruptcies, furloughs, starting over again and again, seniority shot,
new schools, new simulators, etc.
Some of us get burned out from working too much, then do it over and over and over again.
Good luck with Southwest, great company and all that, but in 10 years you may be looking to do a recurrent on your MD ticket and take an early out.
Bon Voyage.

Hello,

I am currently a CFI, CFII, and MEI at about 1000 hours and starting to seriously consider my options for when I get 1500. Joined to read up on different options and get advice.
