Default Multi Engine Time Building...

Hello Folks,

I'm in desperate need of multi-engine time...where would you recommend I go to build this valuable time? Also, if you know of someone willing to split costs to build ME time located in SoCal, please let me know.

Thanks!

Find a cargo outfit that with some kind of twin. Make friends with the PIC and beg to sit right seat. Log the time you actually fly (If you win the PICs trust, you will fly most of the time). This setup is more legit if the PIC is a multi-instructor or if you are a MEI.

Some will have a problem with the legality of the situation. Let them worry about themselves. As long as you are genuinely learning and gaining experience I think you can log it.

Good luck

Until you end up in the weeds, dead or something bend/broke. Then what? Ride alongs would not look to goof for the 135 operator afterwards. Beware....

Default Logging of flight time

You can log whatever you wish so long as you do not intend to use it towards currency or a rating if it isn't approved as such.

I would buy a timed out old piper Apache. Slap an "EXPRIMENTIAL" sticker on the side and burn ARCO's best till it blows up. Then sell the parts on EBay for a profit and on you go.

You don't need an experimental sticker to burn car gas in an Apache.

Why would you end up in the weeds? Ride alongs work great as long as everyone is aware of what is what and who is who. If you do end up dead, well it doesn't much matter any more now does it?

Hi Mike,

I appreciate the advice....did you or someone you know have success with building time like this?

Thanks!

Yeah, me. I flew left seat by day in a 404 and Chieftain and by night as the legit PIC in a C-210. I did this for about 2 months until I got over 100 hours of Multi. I fell asleep in the 210 one night for about one hour. Fortunately I had fixed the auto pilot altitude hold earlier that day. (That's right, I fixed it. The company mechanics had more important things to do)

I am not saying what I did was smart or that I would do I again. I would not fly so much and would get more rest. But, the multi time I got helped me get my first commuter job and then it was off to the races. I know plenty of guys that wrote in their flight time and are majors today. I did not want to go that route.

My old FI used to do what Mike said. He got about 200 hours in 310s and 402s

I take guys with me occationally to do just that. I have to be in the right mood though, since it's usually 2 or 3 times the work to watch these guys try to fly, than to just do it myself.
