Maybe he didn't handle it like a professional and exacerbated the situation with the pax. I find it incredibly hard to believe, that with the proper decorum and self control, an adult could not diffuse the situation, and/or hand a crazy pax off to the right people. If someone tried to hound me like this I would immediately find other airline employees to circle the wagons and resolve this without raising voices or escalation.

Unfortunately in the real world it doesnt always work so nice. Yes it is important to ba an adult and de-escalate, but you cannot count on others to do the same. Some people are troublemakers. The kansas city guy was clearly trying to get his 15 minutes. You cannot help that. The pilot was simply trying to get out of there. If it were me I would have been calling the police. Why? It is a major security concern if someone is trying to photograph your airline ID.

I never thought of the security implications of someone taking a pic of the ID? I know some employees don't like giving their name to passengers which I think is ridiculous, but I've got nothing to hide so I'll gladly give it to them. I probably would've let him snap a pic of my ID thinking it was just to complain about me but now I will never let that happen. Of course being chased down trying to get a pic is completely different

Got a tangent/follow up question...
What's the etiquette regarding alarms in the sleep room? I've set an audible alarm knowing I need to wake up for a flight. Kosher? Faux pax? Only other time I've been in there and heard someone's alarm go off was another guy who set an alarm and then snoozed it like freaking 4 times over 20 minutes! That was annoying as hell but then had me wondering...are audible alarms the norm or am I just annoying people with my "one and done"?

There's already a story being passed around throughout the AA crewmenbers submitted by a passenger of what occurred before the other passenger began filming. More or less the mother in question is a very good actress. Regardless, do we really need to say, don't challenge passengers to brawl it out?

To be fair, it was a conditional threat... “Hey bud, you do that to me and I’ll knock you flat." Meaning there would be no threat unless the FA assaults the hero pax. Just sayin.
