If by Big D, you mean DL, then you must be kidding... this past summer we had a period where only 1 out of 10 airplanes had a single deferral. My experience has been commensurate with that.

When the pilots are dressed like this:

... the mechanics think twice about not fixing something.

Hey, when it comes to 'work', somebody has to do it...

Yes I mean Delta, up here in the North it is a little different it seems. Source: multiple rides to work and crews discussing it plus a family member telling me about it quite often. Who knows though. Point is it isnt just at the regional level.

Timbo,

Please don't belittle what we captains do! Bringing class and good looks to the operation is work too. That certain je ne sais quois is what bring people back(i'm sure).

Rolf

I always thought being captain should be like a ship's captain. Supervising other people, yucking it up with the celebrities in First, attending a pre-arrival cocktail party.

Standing around, looking good is what I do best!

It is far better to Look Good, than to actually Be Good!

My favorite trick is to send the little kids up to the cockpit to sit in my seat, then stand behind their Hot Mamma's in short skirts, while they bend over to take pictures!

Somebody once suggested this role for pilots who reach age 60: they would get a fifth stripe, the rank of Flight Admiral, and a seat in first class. The airplane would be flown by mere CAs and F/Os.

To the AA or Eagle Captain that went by our van on the way to the airport in
Miami on his motorcycle wearing his epaulettes!

For what was probably my last flight at Comair, the crew had a combined 87 years of 121 experience... just at Comair.

(Two pilots and two FAs.)
