Welcome to the whole new world of pilot recruitment. It's all targeted to the YOLO generation. Anything to get them to work for free. Ryan Air has been doing this for a while now with pilot recruiters posting instagram accounts to show what an adventurous life you can live as a pilot. Forget supporting a family or funding your own retirement, just think of the adventures! YOLO

How much did you start working for, adjusted for inflation?

Then again, I think that's in the "start an aviation YouTube channel" terms of service.

Stop crying, he is right. If you are a woman or other minority the red Sea is parted for you in this industry.

Yes, because I'm the one whining about how much women and minorities have it made in the hiring process. Try to insult me using a different cliche next time.

Not whining just stating facts. Why so sensitive?

The facts are that around 85% of those hired at the legacies are white male.

But sure, woe is you.

Um, yeah.......and 90-95% that APPLY are white males. TOTD......anyone who still doesn’t acknowledge that minorities and females receive preferential hiring at airlines QUITE FREQUENTLY.

Actually, some women and minorities might have been the (gasp) most qualified applicants from time to time! The only preferential hiring goes to those who work to make themselves stand out positively.

Not having a vagina or some darker skin (but, in the not too distant past, those last two things sure would PREVENT you from being hired!)

Been to Charlottesville recently?

Of course they do, that's why the chicks, gays, and blacks all have their own groups. It's a special interest to help their people get hired.

That's because there are more white males applying. But....the women and minorities get the interviews first.

Ouch. Well the reality is at those career fairs, 90% of those who show up are male, straight, and white.

Yea I had an easy ride to getting hired. Barely qualified with thousands of hours, TPIC, multiple types, company instructor, and board member of non profit organization along with years of showing face at job fairs. Completely under qualified compared to my class mates. [emoji849] (sarcasm for those who don’t pick it up)

I know plenty of minorities still getting overlooked. Doesn’t seem all that easy for them lately.

In the middle ages they put the chicks in the DC-8 sim and pulled two engines the results were predictible. Emily at F9 got to bypass the CV-580 for that reason..

Exactly, when I go to the airport or look at the pilot rosters, it is all brown and black chicks!

Oh wait, I haven't seen any. But yeah, it must be dem females and minorities stealing our jerbs.

Don't fall prey to the scapegoating. I'm not sure any of us would want to trade places with a black guy in America.

Pretty sure the point trying to be conveyed here is that if you took two low time, low experience pilots, one Caucasian male the other a minority or female, the minority or female would have better odds of an interview.

No one is talking about stealing jobs etc. I’m a white male, I feel no guilt or shame because of it so quit jamming this bs down my throat.

What you see at the airport is 40 years of ancient history, preserved in amber by the seniority system. The actual results experienced by those applying for jobs today are quite different.

Also the pool of available candidates has it's roots in grade school... who was interested in aviation. The fact that young white guys have a cultural affinity for airplanes determines the demographics of the pilot pool.

The issue then becomes how do you select from the pool of QUALIFIED candidates most of whom are white men. Not because other people can't be qualified, but they choose to do other things in life.

Tool of the day thread or hiring news?

Can we get back to totd? You all can go chat about this elsewhere...Maybe the hiring section? Totd used to be fun to read..

Yes! It is time to move on from this dopey crap.
Trouble is, I have not ran across anything lately with the general public that qualifies for TOTD. I still have my vision and hearing. What has happened?

ShyGuy 10-13-2017 08:11 AM

I nominate a (UAL?) ramper night before yesterday on the Newark employee Lot F bus. They run every 10 minutes, and pull out of 'A' on every :00, :10, 20, 30, 40, 50 past the hour. This one was the :50 one. She goes "are you leaving now?" to the driver. Driver says he will at :50. Her response: "It was :50, 40 seconds ago."

I'd like to see whose clock is synchronized to what source. Calling a driver out for seconds is pretty low, IMO. They're taking you to the employee lot and you'll be there in under 10 minutes. And especially not cool considering it was 1:50am.

badflaps 10-13-2017 01:07 PM

Maybe her pumpkin/coach was on mountain time.

The driver should have said: “We’re running early tonight. This is the 2:50 bus.” :D

Every plane can bounce. A last second attempt to flair will get that kiss of the earth and then a hard slap after on mother earth’s behind.

Jeez. Lighten up. If I was really a tool I could have posted a flight number, a city, or anything else identifying. I fully expected a balked landing after that slam job.

And yeah, I've bounced an airplane.

But I'm pretty confident the 747 can't bounce... because I have tried my best to do it! I even know one guy who slapped it on at 2.08g's. No bounce.

Carry on.

Lol. PotatoChip can't win in this thread. That will happen when you toolishly judge another pilot's landing and then bust out a Trump-like alternative fact that is clearly very wide of the mark.

I saw a Korean Air Cargo -400 bounce on RW 15 at ANC a few years ago.

Captain said “Holy sh!t. Take that Alaska!”
