The tools are the strobe nazis not the people protecting their passengers and crew. Here's a thought, instead of jamming up the radios with your stupid anti-safety comments, look away instead.

Exactly!!!

AC560 08-05-2017 06:22 AM

Chewbacca was babbling on guard over Western PA last night. Can't believe Han tolerates it.

Could have been a beacon with the red cover missing? Ive seen this before. Crew didnt have the strobes on, but sure looked like it! They knew because it was deferred. Everyone else, well it just sucked till it was time to blast off

80ktsClamp 08-06-2017 05:12 PM

Just to be clear:

taxiing around with strobes on because you forgot: semi-toolish, but it happens.

On/crossing a runway with strobes on: excellent idea, and usually complies with company procedures.

Complaining on an Internet forum about someone on a runway/crossing a runway with their strobes on: TOTD

Yea...20 of us for an hour!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe his becon was deferred didn't remember seeing that. Then again we couldn't see much...because he had his god damn strobes on...and he couldn't hear aircraft asking him to check his strobes because he was policing Gauurd:)

labbats 08-07-2017 08:49 PM

If it were me and many of us on here with MEL'd beacon lighting I would assume some humanity would prevail with an apology over the airwaves.

So three possible scenarios...
- woefully unaware of both lights on and radio calls
- chose to remain silent after several calls over frequency about his own aircraft
- purposely upset and blinded all around him

Sorry but all signs point to either a disturbed, rude or neglectful pilot. Yes he is a tool.

Just cause a guy has his strobes on doesn't mean you have to stare at em.

It's times like these I wish I still had those Alaska charts in the aircraft.
I probably should have just taken a nap.

It's 5+hrs flying a transcon red eye...I can only watch the fuel gauge for so long...

ShyGuy 08-08-2017 11:49 AM

Ok, but when JFK is departing 22R, they love to back up 13L full of traffic. So yeah, if there are other planes all lined up on a runway, turn the strobes off. You're not crossing the runway, you're on the runway with a dozen other planes basically all parked.

StrykerB21 08-08-2017 03:28 PM

Im gonna file accidentally leaving the strobes on as not toolish.

I nominate myself as the tool of the decade. Not long ago there was a long line up in DTW and I was listening to ground frequency, running checklists, and responding to messages from dispatch. With all that going on I forgot to switch to tower. We got to number one and I could hear the tower shouting at us from across the cab as heard as background noise from ground frequency. Hurr durr sorry everyone!

Ahhh. More to the story. When JFK is using the perpindicular runway for departure storage it would be aggravating to have strobes flashing in my eyes for a long period of time. So upon further review with the new evidence admitted they are found to be guilty. Toolish behavior indeed. Turn them on when on the active though fellas. Even in CLT - the location for the international school of radio tools.

I believe they have a satellite campus in the Atlanta area.

TOTD.....crew members who are a-holes to other crew members. Sometimes, the lack of basic manners is mind-boggling.

Did Delta shout at you on guard? Seriously though, as long as people exist there will be jerks sprinkled among the crowd. Heck, even I'm guilty of being a bastard if I'm having a bad day. I am my father's son and sometimes that hair trigger temper just gets past the filter in my head.

Brush it off and understand that sometimes it isn't about you. Some people suck.

The "Miss Manners" book is out of print and ground school is fresh out. Any suggestions? My experience is limited to tea parties with the teddy bears and Betsey Wetsey........:D

My understanding was that bastards didn't have fathers...

You're understanding is that someone considered a bastard actually does not have a father? That would be a neat trick.

Isn't the only criterion that the bastard is born out of wedlock, usually as the result of an afffair (but not required)?

Have to agree with shy. That is toolish to have the strobes on when lined up on the runway. A little common sense makes Regs and policies go a long way.

Lighten up, Francis.
Many bastards don't know who their father is.

I'll eat crow if they were in a line on a runway being utilized as a taxiway.

The original post said several radio calls were made about the strobes. Unlikely that would happen if it was a proper use of them.

People have done that to aircraft in position and hold... and complained about it here!

Like I wrote earlier, anyone who critiques a pilot for flipping on the strobes while sitting on the active waiting for departure is a dangerous clown. AA and it's step children seem to be overrun with these Bozos based on my experience in CLT and PHL. Mine will always be on. Don't like 'em? Don't look at 'em.

ionpilot 08-10-2017 10:09 AM

that's a lot posts dedicated to strobes...

Welcome to APC! In general, the number of posts on a subject varies inversely with the subject's importance. :p

It has gotten far too excessive and is rampant all over the whole eastern seaboard. The FCC is clamping down finally. No more guard idiocy.

Triangulation and correlation with ADS-B data would be easy, so finally the tools will have to be quiet. :D
