There is plenty of ignorance to go around on this thread.

As if the men and women who marched didn't vote. Right.....I know a number of women who went to the marches. Most of them not liberal, some very conservative. To quote the conservative radio talk show host who phrased it well....if there are marches where the average person shows up, not the liberal rabble rousers who are always there, but the people who normally don't attend these kind of marches, this is a movement, like the Tea Party was. You ignore them to your peril.

And it's easy to cry about how abortion just kills babies, without thinking about, '"Gee, what if every time I have had sex with a woman (for some here, I would guess the number is very low:cool:), what if her birth control failed, and I had to pay 500K+ that it costs to raise a child? Every time? I'd suspect those guys would either run out and quickly have a vasectomy (which sometimes fails also), or become a believer in the morning after pill/abortion/whatever it takes. Little different when your a$$ has to take responsibility.

And by the way, for the ignorant, the main thing that Planned Parenthood does is provide birth control, not abortions. The vast majority of women frequenting PP every month go to get free/inexpensive birth control, not an abortion every month.:eek:

If the mod requests it, show respect and comply. The fact that any of us started into politics or got suckered into responding, makes us all tools of the day.

The dude walking around the US Air Force Museum in all FO uniform glory. Complete with epaulettes, crew ID, and sunglasses over his pocket.

He also had the obligatory blazer over his shoulder routine.

Dude take that crap off and thrown on an overnight shirt....

LNL76 01-29-2017 04:12 PM

I have TWO TOTD! The woman behind me on the TSA Precheck line who told me I wouldn't be allowed to take 3 bags through. Then, the male several people behind me after we went through the screening and calling out to me that I should've been in the crew (KCM) line.

Sigh.....gotta love pax who know more stuff than we do!

Great captain (ex-TWA) commented on my disastrous bounced MD80 landing. As we were in the bounce and I was setting up for another touchdown, he says "fly the pieces... fly the pieces"
Cracked me up
On another occasion ... same guy.. he is floating down the runway , rad alt counted down..50.40.30.20... and stopped... he looks over at me and says "ask him for lower"
Lmao...great dude
Joe

Quick point of order...

For what it's worth, from Urban Dictionary:
Tool (noun):
Someone who is a complete idiot;
One who is used by other people, and usually dosen't even realize it;
Someone who can't think for themselves;
An asshat.

I would argue that the guy you described is definitely NOT tool material, especially when you describe him as "great" not once, but twice. A tool is in almost all cases NOT fun to fly with or a "great dude".:cool:

I would wager not an AF guy...

That museum is freaking awesome though. Too much history for just one day, need a couple days to do it right, and two days probably isn't enough either.

Helluva deal getting into a free chilly museum on hot OH summer days. For all the AF has bumbled up, they sure did great on that museum.

Easy pal! My comment was clearly (I thought?) tongue in cheek. There IS a "Cool of the Day" thread which is clearly more appropriate for your story.

Seems like a lot of folks are wound WAY too tight in here and taking all the fun out of this thread. :rolleyes:

I saw something similar at the Udvar-Hazy Museum at IAD when I was killing time during an extended airport sit. No less than FOUR pilots in full uniforms strolling around the exhibits. Granted, it is very close to the airport and easily accessible by public transit. And full disclosure: they had done probably the same "ditch the bags in the crew room quick and catch the bus" routine i had done. But for the love of Pete, at least have the decency to loose the epaulets, brass and ID!

Marlin 01-31-2017 04:29 AM

Clearly I took your comment wrong,my bad😬... I do enjoy the stories, and thx for the redirect👍🏻

I was feeling extra "sensitive" last eve
My apologies ,

Many airlines have policy against partial uniforms. I've been unable to ditch the suit in the crewroom at several hubs because you can't get from the crew room to the terminal (or back) in civvies without a SIDA badge. My solution to that is carry a civilian jacket to cover up the bling once outside security.

I'd probably cut them a break if they're that close to the airport and probably on duty.

If they're on an overnight, yeah that's toolish.

I would argue that a white short sleeve shirt and black dress pants in the absence of any obvious airline paraphernalia is just that: a white shirt and black dress pants. Dorky looking? Probably. But not policy violating. Just tuck the brass, tie and epaulettes into a pocket and stop in the bathroom back at the airport if you need em for security purposes.

I get your point but I think they still get a sideways look and only half a break.

Better then the UND or ERAU flight instructors that travel around in full uniform so they can appear to be "real pilots". That's a sight I see at least once a month.

What do those abbreviations stand for??? :D

UND
University of Numorus Dorks

ERAU
Egotistical Retarded Aviators United

I saw one of our pilots at Costco in FULL uniform. Even the hat. My post thread would be much higher if I posted all the things I could for this guy in the TOTD thread.

N19906 02-03-2017 01:52 PM

At least the United guy in Walgreen's at nine pm wasn't wearing his hat.
He was three hundred miles away from the nearest United base though...
(And no, they don't fly into here.):rolleyes:

Maybe, just maybe, he commuted in. Lands and his wife calls him and said "hey, pick me up some cough drops on your way home". He doesn't want to change to just run in quick so he figures, even though he'll look like a tool maybe he'll just run in quick. Is it really that big of deal?

Wow. And here I am, feeling toolish just for filling my car at the gas station on the way to the airport, while in uniform. Suddenly I don't feel so bad!

You guys have some psychological issues. To put gas in your car while wearing your uniform is no big deal - why would you feel like a tool? Same for judging someone for stopping in someplace on the way home real quick simply to avoid having to drive all the way home, only to turn back around and do a pointless round trip to the place you just passed. How dumb is that? For me, in some cases it could easily be a thirty minute drive one way to get to wherever I might need, and I'm not going to waste another hour or more of my life, and gasoline in the car because someone might judge me - I'm already gone from home enough. That judging individual has just become the tool. Indeed, there are fools who think they're awesome and want to show it (like Med students in my wife's class who went shopping at the mall in their white coats, or out to lunch wearing the coats), but to feel stupid for occasionally putting gas in your car or picking something up real quick, is kind of sad. Don't be so quick to rush to judgement - you may just discover that YOU are the tool. Just my two cents.

just take the epaulettes or the shirt off. I am assuming people wear undershirts.

You want me to walk into the grocery store in an undershirt and uniform pants?? Get. A. Hobby. Do you look at our military service members who might be on their way home in uniform and stop by to pick up some milk as tools too?

+1. Anyone that would say so would be the biggest tool on the planet.

That being said, I usually pack a regular light jacket, so I just put that over my uniform when I stop anywhere. Especially the liquor store :cool:
