Seriously though, this forum seems to be getting more and more about trolling and/or pi##ing on guys. I don't know... might be time for an extended hiatus.

This behavior is rampant in all of society these days. Millenials and the next generation have grown up in a overly competitive environment where they have learned it's acceptable to turn each other in and play these games. Everything on TV is a ridiculous reality show where they exhibit this classless behavior, or a contest show where the backstabbing tool wins. Sad.

Interestingly, if one were seeking to implement communism and/or totalitarian gov't a la East Germany behind the Iron Curtain, this is a great way to go about doing it without ever having to fire a shot or fight for the takeover.

Of course, at the same time you'd want to militarize the police forces, politicize all the departments of gov't (IRS, EPA, Justice, State) etc.

But none of that has been happening in America. I'm just a tool for thinking it has.

Easy gramps. The sky isn't falling. What's funny about some older folk is they believe that somehow every generation before them didn't think the same exact thing. You aren't special. America is fine. The world turns. People can be gay, do drugs, not believe in some version of God, and try and combat global warming and it will be okee dokee m'kay

What you have to know about geezers is that have a lot to compare the present to, which sometimes makes them uneasy. The great thing is that they are short timers. Your turn.

Ah. The ever present news fanboy.
You seem to have a fetish about Fox news and why you brought that non-related item up in a response is very odd but also very telling to me. Do you really think I pay attention to Fox news or any other news source as non-biased? Flash! No news source is non-biased. Why don't you tell us what just the right news source is so we can all be as enlightened as you are.

Soooo why can I get lectured to but not lecture back?

I don't watch tv. And I'm not enlightened, but I think it's petty for people to always dig at the next generation. Can you really not understand/ have empathy for that basic concept? We've had this discussion before. I would say half of the captains I fly with want to talk about that crap. Downfall of America, Hillary sucks, Obama sucks, yadda Yadda. I once had a captain that lectured me on how awesome Jesus is, and Obama being a Muslim ffs!

They are taking my guns away so I can't defend myself for the zombie apocalypse!!!! My money!!!

But please answer the question. Why can I be lectured but not lecture back there hotshot?

Lecture on brother. You do not need my permission.
Something to keep in mind though: Lecturing is not about winning but rather all about presentation.

Also, I would not get all wrapped around the axle partaking in the generational blame game. My hope is that each successive generation after mine encounters better health, more happiness, and more success. I hope my son and my four grandchildren feel the same.

You will have to excuse me now as I am currently sipping an unhip non-trendy domestic brand beer and alas, I have some house tasks to get done.

Cheers!

If it's painted on the side of a building at the Western stop in Chicago, it's days of being non-trendy are over.

How about an Old Style?

Help me out here. I'm a bit confused, first in him not saying anything to you four years ago when you decided to write your own rules, seems a bit toolish, if he truly felt that way.

But secondly, you lie to your employer about your situation. Did you happen to call the pilots that may have been called out on reserve or given a "junior assignment" and explain the situation and apologize? Thought not. No matter how crappy your regional was, where were your ethics? Was that week off a "right"? I guess it was in the new age of entitlement.

Can't blame him for not updating a LOR for you, but he should have had the 'nads to tell you to your face over the last four years. That was toolish. But IMO, your behavior was just as toolish for basically lying to your employer and someone had to pick up your slack.

I think I flew with that guy! Lost his pension and a quarter million dollars worth of banked sick time, and still reacts to other pilot's "vision problems" with righteous indignation. Since they are out there, and based on extreme scrutiny at our carrier and I assume others, you have some fault in this (with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight).

The situation reminds me of a security clearance poster at a government project I used to work on; "Sure he's your buddy, but does he need to know?" Perhaps your wife should know, so she doesn't screw up a phone contact from the company. Aside from that, all your neighbor, kids and pals at work needed to know is that you scored the time off after relentless effort. Of course how you got to said bareboat charter location would be a tricky business at my carrier, as I believe they now have access to information outside of your own pass riding; think ZED Fare, CASS, maybe even KCM. All I'm saying is you can't be too careful.

All that said, your neighbor is indeed a major tool. Find another DL friend and pull this guy's 4th of July barbecue invitation. If his wife looks like the thumbnail in your profile (your wife?), she's still invited!

You cannot be serious? “Hi, Crappy Regional sked dept., Skipper Bareboat here. Can you give me all the names of active reserves over the next four days please? Yeah, short call too just in case. I’m about to do some line adjusting and want to pre-apologize.”

That's kind of a good point, kinda......

People can write a rec letter for whomever then choose, or NOT write one. Their option.

But I wonder if said pilot ever did the SAME EXACT THING THEMSELVES over the course of their career?

You know, called in sick when they weren't really sick, lied to their employer, called the reserve pilot(s) to see how their lives were impacted by said absence, maybe boasted about it to the people they were with on said sick call. You know, "ethics".

Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Just sayin'.......

If said pilot didn't/never had to self augment their schedule for whatever reason, good for them.

Wow!!! Unless you are the theoretical perfect God-like human being, you have have made questionably unethical decisions in your life, so get off your judgemental high horse.

Some poor reserve pilot may have actually been called to fly?! Oh the humanity!

How about all of the unethical decisions made by all levels of management day in and day out, but you're worried about a guy calling in sick after exhausting all avenues to get the time off so as NOT to throw away his money so that he can fly his trip at his regional airline.

I nominate YOU for TOTD. You must be a joy to fly with.

On the other hand, I've successfully leveraged DND "violations" (to pick a word) by HK into large handfuls of extra points on my hotel member programs. Be sure to speak with the manager about it and be polite.
