Default 80 yo non-pilot apparently lands plane

What a great wing(wo)man!

Still lots of details missing, and sounds like she pretty heavily porpoised the landing, but still fantastic job on a multiengine craft.

"the unidentified couple was soaring in a twin-engine Cessna"

That must have been one heck of a thermal!

... and twin Cessnas are not known to be easy planes to land for anyone, let alone a non-pilot. Heckuva job!

Sad that her husband died. I'm sure he would have been proud.

The news said one engine died from fuel exhaustion. If true she landed single engine! Yikes.

I took off leading a 4-ship of Eagles a few years ago. On departure, ATC asks me "how much light aircraft time do you have?" Big question mark over all our heads at that point. We confer on radio #2 between the 4 of us and I answer "Some.. Why?"

He says there's a woman in a single engine Cessna whose husband has passed out, doesn't know how to fly and needs help.

It would have been nice to try but as I'm thinking of trying to slow to ~80 knots in full burner trying to talk to her through ATC on UHF while he passes my message in VHF, I decided we wouldn't be much help.

They got a guy in a helo with a VHF radio to help her. Turned out it was a carbon monoxide issue and she started getting loopy too. They got her to open a window/door or something and eventually the pilot revived and landed.
