It is often useful to examine these things within the framework of proper Philosophy.

Zen: Be the whale, the aircraft, the salt water, the journey and the Captain-one with everything.

Nihilist: You, the aircraft, the whale and everything else don't matter.

Existentialist: You don't matter, the whale and the aircraft shape your destiny.

Marxist: Whales are the opiate of the masses.

Newton: It only works within the proper framework, step outside and you don't matter.

Helium balloon lean in accelerating car - YouTube

A car, a balloon, and judging by the second voice, some weed.
Enjoy.

Dunno what it means, or who's thoery it supports, but I just tried it in a car with one of those palm sized toy infa red co-axial helicopters.

Under acceleration it drift backwards and needs a little jab of forward cyclic. You only have a momentary input, like a hover correction as opposed to having to fly the craft forward. Velocity changes result in no perceivable control corrections being needed. Neither do direction changes. Breaking to a sudden stop requires, as expected, a jab of back stick. Amount of correction needed is in direct proportion to the rate of acceleration/deceleration preformed by 'host' vehicle.

What do you think happens if you fly your little helicopter whilst flat spinning your airliner? Nothing!

It would appear that our parcel of air has mass that is affected by the laws of physics. Strange

If parcels didn't exist, wouldn't air-foils positioned inside moving objects spontaneously lift off at certain velocities? If you put this air-foil upside down would it create negative lift for the host vehicle? If a tree falls in a A380, and the aircraft is empty...
