Quite right. So is the contention that grammar (the study of the way the sentences of a language are constructed; morphology and syntax; thanks dictionary.com ) is not important or that those who might point out others mistakes are nit-picking? I think it fairly easy to figure out if someone 'mistypes' a word (e.g. woof instead of wood) or if the person is actually using the wrong word (e.g. their they go)
I've heard that English is the hardest language to learn because every rule has an exception. In any case, interesting point, and hard to read!
