Thumbs up Fly Boys

I just saw the movie Fly Boys. Last day in the theater here (actually had to drive 45 minutes to a theater playing it).

It's a great movie and I recommend it. If it is too late to see it, rent it when it comes out. Much better than the move with Clint Eastwood and Tab Hunter in it.

What's your favorite flying movie? (please don't say Top Gun!)

I had planned on seeing it; just never had the chance to. The graphics look awesome. I'll have to rent it (or see it at the $.50 movie )

Flyboys is trite and cliched...you could probably guess every line our heros are going to say 2 seconds before they say them. The CGI is ludicrous to the point of cartoonishness...the WWI version of the Battle of Coruscant, from Star Wars ep III.

Of course I enjoy the first five minutes of Top Gun. Great footage of carrier ops. But I really don't enjoy the rest of the movie too much.

Airplane! remains my favorite.

I saw Flyboy a couple weeks ago and was pretty disapointed. The story line was really weak. The movie had the foundation to make a good movie, but they just missed the boat. This is definatly a movie you can wait to see on DVD. I'd say Airplane is probably my favorit, followed by Always.

Always is much more entertaining than the original "A guy named Joe" with Spencer Tracy.

I own a copy of Airplane, of course. The "don't call me Shirley" DVD edition. Hots Shots is a funning Top Gun spoof.

Cloud Dancer with David Carradine is a great aerobatics movie. Realistic even.

The Great Waldo Pepper with Robert Redford.

The Blue Max with George Peppard (the German side of Fly Boys).

The Bridges of Toko Ri with William Holden- the best Korean era flying movie.

Red Flag: the Ultimate Game with William Devane and Barry Bostwick. The Air Force's "top gun" or ACM movie. Much more realistic, but lacks the big budget spectacle of Top Gun.

How about John Wayne? Jet Pilot, Flying Tigers, Flying Leathernecks, The High and the Mighty, Island in the Sky, & Wings of Eagles.

Jimmy Stewart: No Highway in the Sky, The Spirit of St. Louis, Flight of the Phoenix (original), Strategic Air Command, and there's probably more.?

James Cagney: Ceiling Zero, Captains of the Clouds, & Devil Dogs of the Air.

Tuskegee Airmen with Fishborne and Gooding Jr. Great movie.

War Lover (from the popular book) with Steve McQueen.

Any others you like?
