Default Interesting article about Dubai

Have those of you who've visited felt the same way?

I've never had any illusions about that part of the world. There are things I like about it, but no illusions.

This article is from April 2009 and I don't think much would have changed since then anyway.

As far as things mentioned about the immigrant workers, their working & living conditions, I feel bad about them. But, a lot worst conditions than these exist in the world & most likely, right in the native places from where those workers came from.

As far as some Europeans, Canadians or Americans losing a ton of money in the real estate gambles, you don't need to go to Dubai, one can see much worse conditions right here at home.....

I don't dis-agree with that article even when I read it today & put in context TODAY.

DUBAI or infact any place in the world, be it New York, London or Los Angeles, is not all that rosy what the tours show.... There are a lot of dark, inhuman spots...

That's why we are thankful for what we have, the liberty & freedoms, & that is why we are willing to pay the price to protect those......

If one has not seen those sights yet, that means one has not seen the world enough YET.....

I agree with bcpilot.

Having lived and worked in the ME and many other areas of the world I would say that Dubai has a lot going for it and it rates very high for both quality of life and personal security. There are certainly places in the US I would rate lower, Detroit and Oakland come to mind.

The reason that Dubai attracts so many people is their fantastic growth and the jobs mean that many people leave their home country and a very dismal future to try to improve their situation. This has certainly worked out for many thousands of people.

Like any foreign experience, an effort to understand the history, culture and language is essential to a good view of your surroundings. The last thirty years has been an explosion of growth and opportunity for a great number of people from many nations.

In many ways, Dubai is the best experience you are going to have in the ME, trust me-I have visited almost every country there and have been visiting Dubai for more than twenty years.
