I've been seeing the ads on TV for Flight Simulator X and to tell you the truth I am not impressed. In fact, the first time I saw the ad I thought it was a joke because of the low frame rates and the crappy way the aircraft were handled. Theres even a point where they switch views in the commercial and it takes the textures a few seconds to paint! It literally looks like I took a video of FS2004 on my slow laptop and voiced it over and said "here microsoft, heres your commercial". If I was the ad agency, Id be laughing all the way to the bank with Bill Gates' money.

The ATC did not improve from FS2004, and to me that was a real letdown. Why should you go to another country and still hear Dick or Jane?? I believe FSX was built from customer requests, and I remember many asking for ATC improvements! I was also disappointed to find out that DirectX 10 will not be supported in Windows XP. I took FSX back and reinstalled FS2004, and am happy again. Quite frankly the graphics look almost the same as FS2004 with the same settings. Another letdown was the removal of the 777. I love flying the 777 VC in 2004. One thing I did like about FSX was the improved overhead panel in the VC.

I think it would be cool to download every plane that I ever flew professionally and be able to fly them out of the airports that I use to. I have tried to download different planes without success. Anyone have info on the subject?

I do like X, guys. The adventures are lots of fun. Not to ruin the ending of the movie for anyone, BUT they have way cool adventures. I rarely flew the 777 nor the 747 so I don't miss the 777. One adventure is in the Bell helicopter. You pick up an oil rig executive and take her out to the oil rig only to have the Rig explode when you get there. The graphics are unreal! There's a lot of eye candy. When the rig explodes, she's
(executive) talking to you the entire time kinda like a watered down F/O. You have the option to pick up three oil rig employees and take them back to the refinery. I've managed to pick up two, one guy waving his arms from the helipad, and one guy on the opposite roof only to have a crane hit where I had just lifted off. I couldn't make it to the cat walk to pick up guy three. You think he's lost but on the way back, they say the Coast Guard picked him up.
In another adventure you are flying the King Air IFR from Canada to Alaska trying to beat the weather in. There's snow on the ground and you're in IFR a few hundred feet up. It's cool because you have a pilot in the right seat talking to you and the A/P works well for enroute functions. Well, I won't ruin THIS suprise of what happens enroute.
Another adventure is trying to land the J3 Cub on the roof of a moving bus at Oshkosh. I did it on my third try and have not been able to do it since!! There are a lot of adventures and the adventures are challenging and more fun than 04 could ever hope to be and NO I'm not a Microsoft rep.
If you cycle to the external views to often on some adventures, the computer will reboot. THAT sucks big time, so I just stay internal switching between normal and virtual cockpit modes on the adventures.
It's a lot of fun and it's the most fun this furloughed pilot has had in a long time, but there are a lot of bugs. You've been warned. The biggest disappointment is the freaking autopilot won't track the localizer properly and it barely holds glide slope, but hey neither do I! Just kidding.

Skyhigh,
These are a few sites where you can get a/c. I think one site asks for a ten dollar donation.
When I install a/c I open two folders. One of the compiled a/c down loads and the other of the microsoft/games/aircraft folder. I create new folders named for the aircraft I've down loaded and basically cut, paste, and expand. You might have to do select all and move them to the appropriate folder. Beware, though, some of the planes you'll down load just don't fly right. Look at the number of times a plane has been downloaded and let that number be your guide. If a plane has been downloade 10K times that tells you the person created a good plane (there are exceptions). PM me if you need help. You can almost do the same for scenarys, btw. OH yeah, you can get an editor. If you over nighted at an airport for years and the scenary is weak you can do that airport yourself and upload it.

You will see with the download a folder that will Guages, Sound, Effects, open it up and copy the file inside and paste them into the corresponding folder in the MSFS folder. It will sometimes ask to override and existing folder, so you may want to back up your guages folder just incase something goes wrong.
In the worse case scenerio you will just have to reinstall MSFS, to regain those files that were altered if something is wrong with the new files.
