Default Hotel Horror Stories

In our younger days when we had less money, my husband and I would stay at one star pensions all over Europe and we have stayed in our share of rooms that were less than suitable for human habitation. I'm older now and tend towards selective memory - I don't think about the cockroaches in Salamanca; 15 watt bulb light fixture in Coimbra; icy cold showers in Budapest and Rome; mystery meat dinners in Munich; non-flushing toilets in Palermo; smoke-filled room with thin mattresses (complete with pubic hair on the pillow) in Bilbao; surly help in Malmo.

Give me a tatami room in Tokyo anytime!!!

The 5 Towns by JFK. First hotel I've been to that has bulletproof glass at the front desk. Always wear something on your feet when walking across the carpet in the room 'cause it was so skeevy. Ps. don't eat at the BK next door since it might come back up again.
