Default Cover songs

Jungle's music thread inspired this question: what is the greatest cover song of all time? Obviously beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The first song that comes to me is Hendrix' version of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower".

Vietnam War Video - All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix - DiverseLA - YouTube

Aretha Franklin's "Respect" was voted one of the greatest cover songs. It was Otis Redding's first. I prefer Hendrix though.

Hendrix wins again - twice. My voting criteria being if you went up to someone asked them who wrote/performed the song and they name the cover artist rather than the writer.

All along the Watchtower (Dylan)
Hey Joe (original author in dispute - Tim Rose)

Two more that are "iffy"
Gloria (Van Morrison)
Wild Thing (The Troggs)

Star Spangled Banner (F. Scott Key)

I'm glad you asked I've been waiting so long for an excuse to post Karmin here.

Any of the EBM/Dark wave/industrial cover compilations put out by Cleopatra records gets my vote.

Those bands to some cool covers of everything. Slayer, Metallica, The Cure, AC/DC, Madonna, anything 80's, etc.

Good choice!

I also really like A Day To Remember covering The Fray, and Kelly Clarkson. If you want some interesting cover songs, type "Punk Goes Pop" into Youtube. Highly entertaining CDs.
