Majors are starting to hire(wild speculation)
Just wanted to let you all know that the majors have started hiring. Delta has kicked it off with United/Continental in full recall expecting to hire off the street soon.
Get your stuff in and all the best!!!!

UAL has 1200 still on furlough. With merger cut backs, don't be expecting hiring anytime soon. CAL hired 200 of UAL's 1400 on furlough. Not a big deal. Wait to hear the hiring announcement from UAL, not this forum.

AND it's not a recall anyways, it's just a job offer from CAL. So those that return are actually CAL newhires, but are paid at their last rate with United. At the current rate of offers and projected class sizes, it will be at least another year before off the street hiring will occur.
Also, do you really want to get in bed with this organization? $31/hr as a new-hire and potential of getting furloughed again does not make for a very good job.

To correct a little, I had something like 525 ahead of me including volunteers and have a January class date, I believe that they have already gone thru around 600 of the 1437. Not a recall, but my hourly rate is $85. It does suck that we are not getting the recall that we deserve, but it is important to keep the facts straight. I believe that the current hiring is due in part to a few retirements as well as growth on the Continental side. Age 65 retirements begin in just over 13 months at all airlines, so I expect everyone to start staffing back up at least 6 months prior to that. Unless United decides to park a lot of aircraft which is a possibility, the hiring will go nuts as the Continental new hires quit to return to United. Just my opinion, but I think 2012 is going to be a banner year for ailine unless the economy tanks further.

I expect the new United to park about 150 aircraft. Old 737-500's, 767-200's, 757-200's, etc. Any new 737/787's will be replacement aircraft. Jeff wants more 70 seaters too. If we lose on scope, then expect more job losses. The only bright spot in our future is retirements in over a year. Maybe the economy will pick up too.?
