So you recommend high taxes and high regulation? Does that keep the marauding bands from attacking your factory?
Know where your I Phone was made? And it has nothing to do with slave labor.

Please clarify exactly where I recommend high taxes and high regulation? Why would you pendulum swing to an extreme? That doesn't make any sense.
No he threw out a political opinion and tried to use used a state that has big problems as a proof of his "hypothesis". How do we know how many jobs the low taxes and low regulation have "created or saved"? Maybe unemployment would be 30% if they had high taxes and high regulation in Nevada?
I countered with Texas and Utah where the taxes and regulation are relatively low like Nevada. They dont have the same unemployment problems Nevada has. It is my contention that he has not proved that low taxes and low regulation are not good for employment.
Low taxes and low regulation has not made Somalia prosperous. High taxes and High regulation didnt work out to well for Cuba.
And since the Federal Government owns 90% of the land in Nevada I would contend it is a poor example to indict Capitalism with.

What I contend, is yes, Nevada has large problems, a unique economy based basically on tourism and mining, it also is unique in the aforementioned tax and regulation laws. These laws have existed for many years and have not drawn companies to set up operations. The fact that the state still has only gambling and mining, even after a tax and regulation policy that supposedly should provide the fertile ground for business to flourish, is an indictment of a laissez fair business climate.
A fascinating study of the schizophrenic economic psyche of many, is that when shown a pie slice representation of the division of wealth within many countries of various political / tax structures, the pie that is chosen the most? Sweden. The pie the represents the division of wealth in the US is rarely chosen as the ideal division of wealth. Again, in a blind choice where the pie representing each country, its name, is left blank until after a person’s choice is made. So on the whole, we want the economic division of Sweden with the tax policy of the Bahamas. I think that gap needs to shrink a little.
And back to the education part of it, well Pokey stole my thunder so I'll defer to his statement. Well put.

Are you saying that when someone recommends lowering taxes and decreasing regulation it is a political statement but when you counter it with your example of Nevada it is not? You do not think that I can infer from your statements that you favor higher taxes and higher regulation? Or do you just favor average taxes and average regulation?
You contend that Nevadas economy has not benefited from its low regulation, up until 5 years ago Nevada was considered an economic miracle. Again how do we know that low regulation has not benefited Nevada, show me your control group. There are other reasons not to move to Nevada; to paraphrase Sam Kinison - Its a frickin desert.
People can prefer all sorts of things. That is the problem we live in a Family Feud world where the right answer is the popular answer regardless of reality.
Sweden is an interesting case study. While they are a high tax state "federal" taxes are relatively low the real taxing and spending is done at the local level where the actual citizen has more influence on how much he will have to pay for how much he is going to get. Hows volvo and saab doing lately?
And back to the education part; why dont you and pokey find a post where I criticize getting an education. You guys think throwing money at the teachers union equals advocating education, I dont.

You’re resorting to mocking the handle used on an anonymous forum. What a well-reasoned class move FDXLAG. Really? Is this a junior high lunch room? You undermine any point you attempt to make with sarcasm and slights. One would hope that with 4126 posts, that you’d have figured that out by now.
Guess not.

Never any student loan debt...from zero hours to CFI/II/MEI. Shoot, I squirreled away almost 30,000 into a Roth IRA by the time I was done with college. And my parents left me financially on my own the day I shipped to basic training.
I really do have the National Guard to thank with their educational benefits and what I earned when activated (a lot of that time spent in Iraq). But also I was frugal, worked part time in college, and chose a flight program that wasn't terribly expensive.
