Default Etiquette at Job Fair; Current Employer There

Planning on attending Flt Ops.com on the 28th & 29th, and it looks as if my present employer will be attending as well. What's the best way to handle the possible awkwardness short of hitting up a Halloween costume shop?

Ask if your current employer needs volunteers to help at the job fair, go with them under the guise of helping recruit newhires and then sneak off to whichever carrier you want to get hired with and drop a resume!

Did anyone ever get a job at a job fair?
What are these job fairs good for? What's the difference between applying directly and going to a fair?

Harvey:

(1) Yes ... saw World take applicants from the floor up to a hotel room, interview and hire them on the spot (subject to background checks of course).
(2) The job fairs are good for making personal contacts with recruiters and learning about what your airline picks are looking for. I got called back by FedEx and AirTran based on job fair meetings. Having someone walk you in the door for a face to face often achieves a similar result.

In business, the face to face meeting remains the best way to get the deal done. Your aviation career is worth 2.5 to 5.0 million depending on your age and background, why not make the effort?

Actually a VERY GOOD strategy. If you are a recruiter it means someone at your airline thinks you represent the airline well and the other recruiters will notice that. First folks that get hired are often the Line Check / Training Dept experience pilots and flight operations managers (which recruiters usually are).

Ive heard we received thousands of applications in the last window that was open Sep 1-10. Maybe they didnt think they would get enough people applying when they first signed up for the job fair?
