currency?
What do airline pilots do for instrument currency? I am sure they get their fare share of instrument approaches in a six month span but I don't think I have ever been in an airliner that did a hold or even a proceedure turn. Is this an issue for those guys?

It's a seperate thing from your typical 91 currency, as long as you're in the airline's 121 training program, the only currency that you really keep track of is landings.
I'd venture that most domestic pilots have no issues doing the 6 in 6 and a couple of holds. Comes with the territory (territory being our antique air traffic control system).

^^ This. 121 is different than 91. The only thing we need is our 90 day bounces. My electronic log keeps track of my instrument currency on a 6 month basis, approaches are no problem, as we can do 6+ in a day, but I usually hold a few times on average in a 6 mo. period in and out of the New York area.

In the west I have trouble staying 91 IFR current, especially in the summer. I get the ILS's in the winter, but often I don't hold in IMC. Just as as well...airline approaches might make me legal in ASEL, but they don't make me safe in ASEL.

Actually if you're a 121 PIC your 121 training also keeps you technically current for 91. Doesn't work for SIC's though.
