Gee. When you're not crying on our private message board you're crying on a public one. Be a man for God's sake. Pay your dues graciously and be rewarded down the road or follow the O.P. out the door. You guys can send us all a postcard telling us all about how much better it is in the the rest of the U.S. economy.
Either people are in a GoJet thread bashing the starry-eyed CFI's for 'not knowing their history' or being too enthusiastic about a flying career, or people are whining about the imminent downfall of the profession and how we all need to 'get out!'. Extremists in each direction.
Then you have a post like Killer51183's.......
I look at Killer's statements as a fairly impartial depiction of being a regional F/O.
Let's break it down:
-make crap money: I don't think anyone on here will disagree that $20K-$30K per year is lousy for our hours, QOL, and responsibility.
-be abused by scheduling: Junior mans? Early start/late finish? Reschedules? Having FAR illegalities forced onto you? Incompetent clowns not getting you a hotel room/booking your deadhead? All part of the deal, and doing someone else's job is part of the norm to get what you're owed per your contract.
-never see your family/friends-I commute because I have to, not because I want to. It's one thing to make a sacrifice of personal time, but when you get nothing in return besides a 'job' (not even higher pay/etc) in return, it's kind of a hollow rationale.
-watch the dream you struggled for crash and burn in your face-I don't think anyone here dreamed of being a career regional F/O. Reference the above, need I say more.
Killer just was brutally blunt, not negative.

The part of this thread talking about beer was cool. The part where everyone is crying in their beer, not so much.
As for me, I recently discovered that my local liquor store started carrying not only Moose Drool but Black Butte Porter too! It made my week, especially since they had Moose Drool on sale for $6.99 for a half-rack. Now they just need to get Franziskaner Dunkel and I'll be in beervana!
/ have been missing Black Butte Porter ever since I moved from Portland to Minneapolis....
